Guild Wars 2’s New Push PvP Mode Enters Beta with Big Ambitions

ArenaNet is testing a bold new 5v5 format that could shape the future of Guild Wars 2 competitive play.

ArenaNet has officially launched the beta for Guild Wars 2’s new Push PvP mode. This is a 5v5 competitive battleground. It is more than just a balance patch or seasonal update. You can play Push until May 27. It brings a new map, improved mechanics, and a new phase in ArenaNet’s long-term plan for Guild Wars 2 PvP.

Push mode is different from traditional conquest maps. It focuses on a moving objective. This objective is a hovercart that players must escort to the enemy’s base. Two teams of five players compete for control of the cart. They also fight to keep control of important zones. Think of it as payload meets arena, with a twist of Guild Wars 2’s fluid class mechanics.

This isn’t a new idea entirely. A limited test of Push began back in September last year, but this latest beta features several refinements:

  • A new UI layout for better match visibility
  • Updated map with clearer objectives
  • Inclusion of mechanics like Skyhammer-style knockbacks
  • Visual scoreboard prototype for better clarity on team progress

ArenaNet’s intent is clear. They are not just improving an experimental mode. They are testing a competitive structure that could change PvP in the franchise.

Push Timeline

Key Changes in the Latest Beta

Push introduces a range of updates inspired by feedback from earlier testing phases. These enhancements prioritize readability, map flow, and pacing. The revamped scoreboard now provides real-time updates on team progress and objective control. Additionally, area control mechanics make central battles more thrilling.

These changes reflect an increasing desire to make the PvP experience more accessible while maintaining its strategic elements.

Mixed Feedback from the Community

Reactions to Push mode so far are mixed. Steam reviews lean positive, praising the mode’s pacing and structure. Reddit and the official forums have many different opinions. Some players mention problems with clarity, long match times, and class balance issues.

That said, experienced players are already breaking down how to win. One Reddit user, u/FoulAnemone123, shared a few early tips that capture the evolving meta:

  • Don’t stack on the point – More players don’t always mean faster progress.
  • Only one player needs to escort – The rest should control map pressure and flanks.
  • Use elevation and knockbacks – Terrain and spacing win fights.

Why ArenaNet’s Timing Is No Coincidence

This beta isn’t just about testing a new game type. It shows ArenaNet’s ongoing commitment to Guild Wars 2’s PvP scene. This scene has sometimes had trouble keeping up with PvE updates, like open-world metas or fractal expansions.

The rumors about Guild Wars 3 that have emerged over the past years are hard to overlook. This project may be part of a bigger experimental phase. It serves as a testing ground for improving design ideas. These concepts could influence the development of future titles.

Push may influence not only current players but also anyone observing the franchise’s potential evolution.

How to Try the Push Mode Beta

Whether you are a dedicated PvP player or just curious, this is a great chance to shape the mode as it develops. ArenaNet is actively seeking your feedback and making noticeable enhancements.

Push has the potential to enhance PvP in Guild Wars 2 by providing a flexible matchmaking system. This improvement could encourage long-term engagement and draw in a new generation of players.

Ready to give it a shot? You have until May 27 to test it out and share your feedback directly on the official ArenaNet blog.
